About the game
Nevsky recreates the medieval clash between Teutonic and Russian powers along the Baltic frontier between 1240 and 1242. Players raise armies, manage feudal lords bound to limited terms of service, and maneuver forces to ravage territory or force decisive battles. As the first volume in GMT's Levy & Campaign series, it layers economic and political detail, provisioning, coin, and calendar management, beneath its combat system. The game supports solitaire play or head-to-head competition with hidden-information options.
Hobbli's Notes
Nevsky stands out among historical wargames for how well it models the messy logistics of medieval warfare: keeping lords in the field is as much a puzzle as winning battles. Volko Ruhnke's design rewards careful long-range planning over flashy tactics. A rich choice for wargamers who want depth without a Napoleonic-scale time commitment.
