About the game
Wilderness War is a card-driven wargame that lets 1-2 players re-fight the French and Indian War in North America from 1755 to 1760. Dramatically simpler than earlier card-driven wargames yet still a substantial challenge, it pits an irregular-heavy French side reliant on raiding and Indian allies against the superior manpower of British Regulars and Provincials favoring sieges and pitched battles. Using a single deck of strategy cards and a point-to-point map, players maneuver forces, recruit Indian allies, besiege forts, and manage events from Europe that lie beyond their control.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team considers Wilderness War a standout in the card-driven wargame genre, praised for how well its asymmetric factions capture the shifting fortunes of the actual historical conflict. The elegant balance of strategy cards and point-to-point movement rewards careful long-term planning without becoming overwhelming. Its three-hour playtime and steep learning curve mean it's best reserved for a dedicated wargaming session with a committed opponent.
