About the game
Guards of Atlantis II brings the computer MOBA genre to the tabletop as a zero-luck, team-based battle for control of the map. Each player controls a single hero drawn from a roster of 32, using a hand of cards to move, unleash abilities, and battle enemy heroes and minions. Defeating minions earns coins to level up and empower your hero as your team pushes toward the enemy base. This complete overhaul of the original Guards of Atlantis streamlines the rules while adding a wealth of new heroes and a double-sided board. It's built for competitive, tactical team play.
Hobbli's Notes
Guards of Atlantis II succeeds where many attempts at 'MOBA the board game' stumble, because it leans on card-based, no-luck resolution rather than dice to keep skill front and center. Hobbli's team appreciates the sheer variety of heroes, each playing distinctly enough to reward specialization. It does require a full team of players and a fair investment of time to learn everyone's abilities, so it shines most with a regular gaming group.
What we like
- Zero-luck design rewards pure tactical skill.
- 32 heroes with variable powers offer huge replayability.
- Streamlined rules improve on the original's complexity.
- Team-based structure builds camaraderie and communication.
Keep in mind
- Requires a large group of 4 or more to feel right.
- Learning many hero abilities takes time upfront.
- Miniature and card overhead can slow first plays.
Who it's for
Best for competitive gamers aged 14+ in groups of 4-10 who enjoy team-based strategy and are fans of MOBA video games like League of Legends or DOTA.
