About the game
Iron Curtain is an intense two-player card game that condenses the Cold War into just eighteen cards and roughly twenty minutes. Players take the role of the US or Soviet Union, playing one card per turn over nine total turns to build a shifting map of world influence. Every card placement is a dilemma, whether to focus control in Europe, Africa, or elsewhere, creating a tight tug-of-war for global dominance. Its minimalist design puts nearly all the tension on reading your opponent's next move.
Hobbli's Notes
Iron Curtain proves that a serious strategy game doesn't need dozens of components: just eighteen well-designed cards deliver real tension in a fraction of the time of bigger Cold War games. Every single card placement matters given how few turns there are, making it a tight psychological duel. It's an excellent filler for wargame and area-control fans who want something with real bite but minimal setup. Fans of Twilight Struggle looking for a much shorter Cold War fix should take note.
What we like
- Remarkably tight design fits deep strategy into just 18 cards.
- Fast 20-30 minute playtime for a strategy-heavy game.
- Every card placement carries real strategic weight.
- Strong Cold War theme conveyed through minimal components.
Keep in mind
- Strictly two-player with no variant for more.
- Very short game length may leave some wanting more depth.
- Minimalist components may feel underwhelming to some collectors.
Who it's for
Great for two players who enjoy tense, minimalist strategy games with Cold War theming and quick playtimes.
