About the game
Watergate is a tense two-player card-driven game recreating the real-life political scandal, with one player as a Washington Post journalist and the other as the Nixon administration. The journalist races to connect two informants directly to the President through a web of evidence, while the administration works to build momentum and smother incriminating leaks. Each side plays from a unique deck of historically inspired cards, and the tug-of-war track captures the mounting pressure of the unfolding crisis. An included booklet on the real history of Watergate adds an extra layer of engagement for history buffs.
Hobbli's Notes
Watergate is a superb example of thematic mechanism married to history: the connections mini-game of linking evidence to the President elegantly mirrors real investigative journalism. The asymmetry between the two decks keeps both sides feeling meaningfully different to play, and the tug-of-war track keeps tension high throughout. Being strictly two-player and historically grounded, it's a niche pick, but for history-minded strategy gamers it's a fantastic, tightly designed duel.
