About the game
Carcassonne: Amazonas sends players down the Amazon River in canoes, discovering wildlife, visiting native villages, and navigating unpredictable caimans and piranhas. As the third entry in the "Carcassonne Around the World" series, it keeps the familiar tile-laying and area-majority framework while adding boat movement mechanics tied to the river's flow. Players score for animals spotted, villages visited, and how far downstream their boats travel by game's end. It's a fresh, nature-themed twist for fans of the Carcassonne family.
Hobbli's Notes
We appreciate how Amazonas takes the beloved Carcassonne formula and adds a genuinely new wrinkle with the boat-movement scoring twist. It's light enough for family play but has just enough push-your-luck tension from the river hazards to keep experienced players engaged. A nice change of pace if you already own the base game and its other spin-offs.
What we like
- Familiar tile-laying mechanics make it easy to pick up for Carcassonne fans.
- Boat movement adds a fresh layer of strategy to the formula.
- Colorful animal theme appeals to families and younger players.
- Supports up to five players for bigger game nights.
Keep in mind
- Standalone spin-off may feel redundant if you already own several Carcassonne titles.
- Moderate downtime as player count increases.
- Less depth than heavier territory-control games.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual gamers, ages 8+, playing in groups of 2-5 who enjoy light tile-laying games with a nature theme.
