About the game

Carcassonne: South Seas keeps the familiar tile-laying gameplay of the original Carcassonne but swaps cities, roads, and farms for bananas, shellfish, and fish. Players lay tiles and place meeples to gather goods, then ship them to traders in exchange for points. As the first entry in the "Carcassonne Around the World" series, it offers a fresh tropical spin on a beloved formula. It's easy to pick up for anyone who already knows Carcassonne, and just as approachable for newcomers.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli sees this as a pleasant, low-stakes reskin: the tropical trading theme is charming, and the tile-laying core remains as approachable as ever. It's not going to surprise longtime Carcassonne fans mechanically, but it's a nice variety pick for family collections. Great as a lighter, breezier alternative to the original.

What we like

  • Familiar, easy-to-learn Carcassonne tile-laying formula.
  • Fresh tropical theme with bananas, shellfish, and fish trading.
  • Low downtime keeps the pace brisk.
  • Family-friendly and quick to teach newcomers.

Keep in mind

  • Largely a re-skin of the core Carcassonne system.
  • Limited strategic depth compared to heavier Euro games.
