About the game

Domaine casts players as feuding lords carving up a kingdom fallen into anarchy, placing walls on a modular board to enclose territory and expanding domaines even into rivals' land. Knights protect your holdings from encroachment, while cards let you take actions and generate income through mines and card sales. Points come from the quantity and type of terrain enclosed and control of matching mines. Designed by Klaus Teuber, it's a clever medieval land-grab of enclosure and hand management.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editors see this as an underrated Teuber design: the enclosure mechanic creates satisfying territorial tension that's easy to overlook next to his bigger hits. A solid pick for fans of area-control Euros.

What we like

  • Clever enclosure mechanic creates ongoing territorial tension.
  • Card-driven actions keep choices tight and meaningful.
  • Modular board increases replayability.
  • Satisfying medieval land-grab theme.

Keep in mind

  • Can suffer notable downtime with four players.
  • Feels somewhat dated next to modern Euro designs.
  • Card draw luck affects which actions are available.

Who it's for
