About the game

Tsukuyumi: Full Moon Down is a three-to-five-player asymmetric area-control battle game set after the Moon has crashed into Earth and revealed itself as the vengeful dragon god Tsukuyumi. Each player commands one of five wildly different factions - from human Nomads to intelligent mutant Boarlords - competing for territory, resources, and faction-specific missions across a modular board. Players bid for action cards each round to determine turn order and available actions, adding an extra layer of tension to the drafting, movement, and combat phases. With no dice and a heavy emphasis on strategic planning, the game rewards players who can adapt their faction's strengths to an ever-shifting battlefield.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team is drawn to the striking post-apocalyptic art and the genuinely asymmetric factions, which make each side feel meaningfully different to play. The action-card bidding system is a clever way to control turn order without dice, though it does add rules overhead on top of an already meaty area-control game. This is a heavy, ambitious title best suited to a group that already enjoys big-box strategy battlers.

What we like

  • Five highly asymmetric factions each play in genuinely distinct ways.
  • No-luck, no-dice design rewards strategic planning over chance.
  • Action-card bidding system adds tension to turn order and resource use.
  • Striking post-apocalyptic art and world-building reinforce the theme.

Keep in mind

  • Three-hour playtime and dense rules make this a heavy commitment.
  • Best enjoyed at full player count, which limits flexibility.
  • Steep learning curve for players new to area-control battlers.

Who it's for

Experienced strategy gamers who enjoy asymmetric faction battles and area control; best for three to five players ready for a heavier three-hour session.
