About the game

Villages of Valeria is a card-driven city-building game set in the fantasy world of Valeria, where you'll establish resources, construct buildings, and recruit adventurers to grow your village into the kingdom's next capital. Each round, one player chooses an action while everyone else may 'follow' it for a lesser reward, creating a constant push and pull between efficiency and opportunity cost. Building cards do double duty, either constructed for their bonus or developed into a resource. The first to build or recruit ten buildings and adventurers triggers the game's end. It's a streamlined, accessible entry into the beloved Valeria universe.

Hobbli's Notes

We enjoy how the follow mechanism keeps every player engaged even on someone else's turn, a small touch that eliminates a lot of downtime. The dual-use building cards add a nice layer of decision-making without overwhelming newer players. It's a lighter, more portable cousin to Valeria: Card Kingdoms, making it a great gateway into the series. A dependable choice for quick, replayable city-building fun.

What we like

  • Follow mechanism keeps all players engaged every turn.
  • Dual-purpose building cards add meaningful decisions.
  • Supports a wide player count from solo to five players.
  • Quick 60-minute playtime with low rules overhead.

Keep in mind

  • Card-based city building may feel abstract for theme-focused players.
  • Following actions can feel like a consolation prize compared to leading them.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual gamers aged 10+ who enjoy light city-building and card drafting, playable solo or with up to 5 players.
