About the game

Valeria: Card Kingdoms is a tableau-building game for 1-5 players who recruit citizens and buy domains to build up kingdoms while fending off monsters plaguing the land. On your turn you roll two dice and activate matching citizen cards using each individual die and their combined sum, while other players simultaneously trigger their own cards off the same rolls. After resolving dice, you take two actions such as slaying monsters, recruiting citizens, buying domains, or gathering resources. The player with the most victory points when the game ends is crowned the winner.

Hobbli's Notes

Valeria stands out among tableau-builders for making every player's turn active thanks to its shared dice-triggering system, keeping downtime refreshingly low. The variety of cards to recruit gives real strategic flexibility each game. Randomness from the dice can sometimes overshadow careful planning, which may bother players who prefer tighter control. Great for fans of deck-building style games who want more direct dice interaction.

What we like

  • Shared dice-triggering keeps all players engaged even on others' turns.
  • Wide variety of citizen and domain cards for strategic flexibility.
  • Quick playtime fits easily into most game nights.
  • Scales smoothly from solo to five players.

Keep in mind

  • Dice randomness can outweigh careful strategic planning.
  • Card variety may lead to some imbalance between available options.
