About the game
Signorie drops you into Renaissance Italy as an ambitious Signore vying to control the great cities. Each round players draft dice from a shared pool, using the die's color to select an action and its value as a cost discount. A tight scoring threshold on your chosen dice determines whether you earn bonus rewards, creating tension between grabbing powerful actions and staying under budget. With variable set-up and set collection goals layered on top, no two games play quite the same. It's a clever mid-heavy Euro for players who enjoy risk-reward dice drafting.
Hobbli's Notes
We like how Signorie turns dice drafting into a genuine puzzle rather than a luck-fest: the discount-vs-reward tension is the heart of the design. It rewards planning several turns ahead while still leaving room to pivot when the dice don't fall your way. The Renaissance theme is mostly a light coat of paint, but the mechanisms are engaging enough that it doesn't matter much. Downtime can creep up in four-player games since everyone eyes the same dice pool.
What we like
- The die-drafting-with-discount mechanic creates meaningful tension every round.
- Variable set-up keeps replays fresh.
- Rewards careful resource-cost planning.
- Attractive Renaissance-Italy presentation.
Keep in mind
- Can suffer from downtime in four-player games as everyone studies the dice pool.
- Theme is somewhat pasted-on rather than deeply integrated.
- The scoring threshold mechanic takes a game or two to click.
Who it's for
Fans of mid-to-heavy Euro games who enjoy dice allocation and worker placement will find plenty to chew on; best suited to groups of 3-4 experienced gamers aged 12+.
