About the game

Medina (Second Edition) is a tile-placement and area-majority game for 2-4 players, tasking players with building palaces, expanding the market, and constructing city walls in a 19th-century Moroccan medina. Each turn, players place two pieces to grow buildings or city features, eventually claiming ownership over one building of each color and scoring based on size and bonuses like wall connections and palace placements near the well. This edition adds a double-sided board for two-player games and improved wooden components.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team enjoys Medina's tense area-majority puzzle from designer Stefan Dorra, where claiming the right building at the right moment is a constant balancing act. The double-sided board in this edition makes the two-player experience notably tighter than the original. It's a great pick for groups who enjoy spatial, tile-based Euro games with meaningful player interaction.

What we like

  • Tense area-majority puzzle rewards careful timing.
  • Improved two-player mode via double-sided board.
  • High-quality wooden components in this edition.
  • Elegant, mid-weight Euro design from a respected designer.

Keep in mind

  • Building ownership can feel arbitrary if timing is misjudged.
  • Abstracted theme offers little narrative engagement.

Who it's for

Good for Euro-strategy fans (ages 10+) in groups of 2-4 who enjoy tile-placement and area-majority games.
