About the game
Fireteam Zero follows four secret WWII-era soldiers battling terrifying supernatural enemies across three maps of escalating difficulty. Each character wields a unique deck of combat cards that double as both actions and health, forcing players to balance offense with survival. Two NPC Specialists provide crucial support abilities, while Monster Twist cards ramp up the threat the longer a mission drags on. It's a story-rich cooperative game of squad tactics and horror, expandable through the Africa and Europe expansion cycles.
Hobbli's Notes
Fireteam Zero stands out for its clever push-your-luck card system, where every card you play is also a chunk of your health -- it creates real tension around when to go aggressive versus play conservatively. The cooperative squad-tactics gameplay pairs well with its pulpy WWII-horror narrative, and the expansions add welcome variety with new monster factions. It's a satisfying, if somewhat under-the-radar, entry in the cooperative dungeon-crawl genre.
What we like
- Clever card system where cards double as actions and health.
- Strong cooperative squad-tactics gameplay with variable hero powers.
- Escalating difficulty across three maps keeps missions tense.
- Expandable with two additional monster-faction expansions.
Keep in mind
- Card-as-health mechanic can create swingy, punishing situations.
- Longer 90-minute sessions require sustained cooperative focus.
Who it's for
Great for cooperative game fans who enjoy horror and pulp WWII themes, ages 14 and up, in groups of 1-4.
