About the game
Pixel Tactics is a fast, tactical head-to-head card game for two players, each wielding an identical 25-card deck. Drafting a leader at the start of the game dramatically reshapes how every other card in your deck can be used, giving the game 25 distinct ways to play. Cards can be deployed offensively up front or as support in the back rows, or discarded as powerful one-time orders. Matches are typically played best-of-three or best-of-five, set in the same world as Level 99 Games' BattleCON.
Hobbli's Notes
Pixel Tactics packs an impressive amount of tactical depth into a small box and a quick playtime. The leader-drafting hook means the same deck plays completely differently depending on who you pick, giving this tiny game huge replay value. It's a fantastic pick-up-and-play duel for two players who like head-to-head card battles without the deckbuilding overhead of a full CCG. The retro pixel-art presentation is charming and distinctive.
What we like
- Enormous variety from just 25 leaders reshaping the same deck.
- Fast setup and quick playtime make it easy to play multiple rounds.
- Rewards tactical positioning and card-timing decisions.
- Portable and inexpensive compared to typical dueling card games.
Keep in mind
- Strictly two-player, so it won't work for larger groups.
- New players face a steep learning curve to understand leader interactions.
- Best-of series matches can extend total playtime beyond the base 45 minutes.
Who it's for
Perfect for two players, ages 12+, who enjoy quick tactical card duels and don't mind a bit of a learning curve to master leader synergies.
