About the game
Summoner Wars puts 2-4 players in control of powerful Summoners who lead their factions to war on the battlefield of Itharia. Each faction plays with its own deck of unique warriors, spells, and abilities, letting you customize a distinct tactical identity as you expand your collection. On your turn you summon units, move them across the battle mat, and unleash magic to whittle down your opponent's Summoner before they do the same to you. Its expandable design means new factions and mercenaries keep the tactical matchups evolving.
Hobbli's Notes
Summoner Wars strikes a nice balance between quick card-game accessibility and genuine tactical wargaming, with faction identity doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The battle mat gives it a spatial dimension that a lot of card-only skirmish games lack. It shines brightest as a two-player experience, so don't expect much beyond head-to-head duels.
What we like
- Distinct factions each offer a genuinely different playstyle.
- Combines card-game accessibility with tactical battle-mat positioning.
- Expandable system supports long-term collection and variety.
- Quick setup for a game with real tactical depth.
Keep in mind
- Primarily a two-player game, limiting group play.
- Dice and card draw can introduce noticeable swing.
- Balance across the growing roster of factions is uneven.
Who it's for
Best for two players aged 9+ who enjoy tactical card-driven combat with collectible-style faction variety.
