About the game
Ashes Reborn: Rise of the Phoenixborn is a two-player expandable card game where demi-god Phoenixborn wage magical war for supremacy over a world torn apart by an ancient prophecy. Rather than a random booster-pack model, each expansion is a complete, balanced deck ready to play, letting you build unique combinations of dice-fueled spells and summoned allies. Interrupt-based card abilities create a constantly reactive back-and-forth between opponents. This updated edition refines the original Ashes with clarified rules and rebalanced cards for a smoother experience.
Hobbli's Notes
Ashes Reborn does a great job of capturing the deckbuilding-duel feel of a collectible card game without the randomized-pack costs, and the dice-based resource system is a clever alternative to mana. The interrupt system creates satisfying mind games between two skilled players. It's very much built around one-on-one play, so it won't suit larger groups.
What we like
- Non-randomized expansions offer full deckbuilding control without booster-pack luck.
- Distinctive Phoenixborn characters each play very differently.
- Interrupt-based abilities create tense, reactive exchanges.
- Dice-based resource system is an elegant alternative to traditional mana.
Keep in mind
- Built almost exclusively for two players.
- Full variety requires investing in multiple expansion decks.
- The interrupt and timing rules take a few games to fully click.
Who it's for
Ideal for two players aged 14+ who enjoy deep deckbuilding duels with dice-based resources and asymmetric powers.
