About the game

Starship Catan is a two-player card game set in the same universe as Starfarers of Catan, but with its own distinct gameplay. Players explore shuffled decks of cards searching for colonies, favorable trades, and opportunities to aid planets, all while avoiding or fighting off pirates. Ships can be upgraded with weapons, thrusters, and scanners to improve combat, exploration range, and foresight. The first player to reach 10 victory points, earned through colonies, upgrades, and friendship or hero points, wins.

Hobbli's Notes

A tight, well-balanced two-player card game with a satisfying push-your-luck exploration deck. As part of the excellent Kosmos two-player series, it stands on its own merits even if the Catan branding undersells how distinct it actually plays.

What we like

  • Excellent two-player-only design with tight pacing.
  • Satisfying push-your-luck exploration deck mechanic.
  • Meaningful ship-upgrade choices add strategic variety.
  • Quick setup and about an hour to play.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly limited to two players, no group option.
  • Card luck can create notable swings in fortune.
  • Smaller box may feel slight next to bigger Catan spin-offs.

Who it's for

Couples and two-player game enthusiasts, ages 10 and up, designed exclusively for exactly 2 players.
