About the game

Targi is a clever two-player-only game where you and your opponent lead Tuareg tribes across the Sahara, placing meeples on a shared grid to gather goods and collect powerful tribe cards. Every action you take also blocks a space from your rival, so tight give-and-take tactics matter as much as long-term planning. Build rows of matching or varied cards in your display to rack up bonus points, while scarce resources conspire against ambitious plans. It's a lean, portable game that packs a surprising amount of strategic tension into a small box.

Hobbli's Notes

Targi remains one of the best two-player-only games in modern design because of how much interaction it squeezes out of a compact system. Every meeple placement is a puzzle: you're maximizing your own row of cards while denying your opponent the exact spots they need. Weakness: it doesn't scale beyond 2p, so it's not for the whole family game night. Still, for date night or a lunch-break duel, Targi rewards repeat plays and rarely overstays its welcome.

What we like

  • The shared grid creates constant tactical tension between both players.
  • Quick 60-minute playtime makes it easy to fit into an evening.
  • Compact components make it very portable for travel or lunch breaks.
  • Rewards careful planning around row combinations for bonus points.
  • High replayability thanks to varying tribe card draws each game.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly two players, so it can't be used for larger groups.
  • The abstract-feeling grid may feel dry to players wanting more theme immersion.
  • New players can feel overwhelmed by the number of simultaneous goals.

Who it's for

Best for two adult or teen gamers who enjoy tight tactical resource and card-drafting duels; ideal for couples or a regular two-player gaming partner.
