About the game
A Few Acres of Snow is a two-player deckbuilding wargame recreating the century-and-a-half struggle between Britain and France for control of North America. Cards represent both locations and manpower, and as players capture new territories, their decks grow to include those spaces, opening up new options for expansion, trade, and combat. Each card offers multiple possible uses, but players must choose only one aspect per play, forcing constant trade-offs between economic development and military aggression. Blending Dominion-style deckbuilding with area-control wargaming, it lets two players refight a sprawling colonial conflict in a single evening. Historical events and asymmetric starting positions between the British and French sides add further strategic texture.
Hobbli's Notes
A Few Acres of Snow is a fascinating hybrid that proved deckbuilding could carry a serious two-player wargame, and it's still one of the most interesting designs in that space. That said, it's infamous in hobby circles for a dominant early rush strategy in the base rules, so we'd recommend using one of the well-documented house-rule fixes before diving in competitively. Once balanced, the tension between economy and conquest is genuinely gripping. A must-try for two-player strategy fans willing to do a little homework first.
