About the game
Luna casts players as heads of mystical Orders vying to win the favor of the aging Moon Priestess and determine her successor. Over six rounds, players move novices across seven islands surrounding a central temple, using a worker-movement system where units start each round wherever they ended the last one. Timing is everything: being in the right place at the right moment nets valuable influence points through building shrines, working the temple, and joining divine services. Designed by Stefan Feld, Luna offers a tight, tactical puzzle with strong strategic depth for 1-4 players, including a solo mode.
Hobbli's Notes
A classic Feld puzzle: tight action optimization dressed in a light fantasy theme. The novice-movement mechanic (units stay where they stopped, rather than resetting) is genuinely clever and forces you to think a step ahead. It can feel a touch dry thematically, and downtime with four players is real, but the tactical depth is rewarding for fans of Feld's other designs.
What we like
- The novice-movement mechanic adds a clever layer of positional planning.
- Deep strategic options despite relatively simple core rules.
- Includes a solo mode for flexible play.
- High replayability from varied island layouts each game.
Keep in mind
- Thin fantasy theme may leave some players wanting more narrative flavor.
- Downtime can be noticeable in the full four-player count.
- New players may need a game or two to grasp the optimization puzzle.
