About the game

Clue: The Great Museum Caper flips the classic Clue formula into a semi-cooperative hidden-movement game, pitting a secret thief against a team of detectives. The thief secretly plots a route through a private art museum, dodging cameras and motion detectors while stealing paintings, while the detectives coordinate to spot her before she escapes. Special powers, like deactivating cameras or cutting the museum's power, add tension to every sneaky maneuver. Originally released as Heist and later rebranded with the Clue license, it won a 1991 Mensa Select award.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team loves how The Great Museum Caper delivers real hidden-movement tension in a light, approachable package suitable for younger players. The asymmetry between the thief's careful stealth and the detectives' frantic dice-fueled pursuit creates genuinely exciting moments at the table. It plays fast and works well with larger groups, making it a great gateway to more complex hidden-movement games like Scotland Yard. The Mensa Select recognition is well-earned for such a clever, accessible design.

  • Accessible rules make it easy for kids and families to enjoy.

Keep in mind

  • The thief role may feel stressful for younger or new players.
