About the game
Lost Cities: The Board Game brings Reiner Knizia's classic push-your-luck card game onto a board, adding monument tokens and a golden-coin scoring track. Playing cards in ascending order along colored paths, players decide how far to commit to risky expeditions versus starting a safer new path. Over three rounds, players collect points for the paths they complete, with early abandonment costing negative points. It's a redevelopment of the original Lost Cities, later also released as Keltis.
Hobbli's Notes
A lovely board expansion of the beloved Lost Cities card game, adding just enough extra structure with monuments and the three-round format. It remains a light, elegant filler at heart and shines brightest as a cozy two-player experience despite supporting up to four.
What we like
- Elegant push-your-luck card-path mechanic that's easy to learn.
- Plays well for both two players and larger groups of four.
- Based on Reiner Knizia's celebrated original design.
- Quick sessions of around an hour keep it approachable.
Keep in mind
- Direct player interaction is fairly limited.
- Can feel repetitive across many consecutive plays.
- Adds relatively little over the original card game for some fans.
Who it's for
Couples and casual gamers, ages 8 and up, best for 2-4 players and especially strong as a two-player date night game.
