About the game
Dragon's Gold sends teams of dragon hunters after treasure, but slaying the dragon is only half the challenge: the real contest is negotiating how to split the loot. When a dragon falls, the hunters who participated have sixty seconds to haggle over gems, gold, and magic items before the timer runs out and the treasure is lost entirely. Cutthroat trading and real-time negotiation drive every round, with silver, gold, and rare gems all worth different point values at the end. Whoever accumulates the richest hoard by the final dragon wins.
Hobbli's Notes
Bruno Faidutti's knack for social negotiation games shines here, with a real-time haggling timer that injects genuine urgency into every deal. The tension of losing everything if you can't agree fast enough makes for memorable, chaotic moments. It's a lighter, high-interaction game best enjoyed with a talkative group who relish some friendly cutthroat trading. The fantasy dragon-hunting theme is simple but effective window dressing for the negotiation core.
What we like
- The real-time negotiation timer creates genuine urgency and tension.
- Simple rules make it easy to teach to new players.
- High player interaction through constant trading and haggling.
- An advanced scoring variant adds extra depth for repeat plays.
Keep in mind
- Requires an outgoing group willing to negotiate loudly.
- Quieter players may struggle to get a fair deal.
- Luck of dragon encounters can outweigh strategic trading skill.
Who it's for
Great for outgoing groups aged 10+ who enjoy real-time negotiation and trading games for 3-6 players.
