About the game
Aquaretto is a set-collection and tile-placement game in which players build and manage a water-themed zoo, drawing animals from a bag to place on transport trucks before claiming a full truckload for their park. Careful spacing rules mean different species can't sit adjacent to each other, forcing players to balance greed with generosity when loading trucks. A cousin to Zooloretto, it adds breeding mechanics and worker bonuses for extra scoring depth.
Hobbli's Notes
We like how Aquaretto builds meaningfully on the Zooloretto formula, adding just enough complexity, breeding, workers, coin options, without losing its light, family-friendly charm. The animal-adjacency puzzle keeps every truck-loading decision interesting for all players at the table. It also works as a standalone game or combined with Zooloretto for a bigger 'mega-game' experience.
What we like
- Accessible set-collection gameplay suits all ages.
- Animal-adjacency rules add a clever spatial puzzle.
- Combinable with Zooloretto for expanded play.
- Breeding mechanic adds charming extra scoring options.
Keep in mind
- Moderate downtime as players plan truck loads.
- Random animal draws add luck to planning.
- Limited strategic depth for hardcore gamers.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual gamers aged 8+ who enjoy set-collection and tile-placement in groups of two to five.
