About the game
In Zooloretto, 2-5 players build and manage their own zoo, drafting small, large, wild, and exotic animals to attract visitors. But space is tight: take on too many animals without enough enclosures and you'll rack up minus points instead of profit. Careful planning and just the right amount of restraint make for a satisfying puzzle. Zooloretto won the Spiel des Jahres in 2007 and can be expanded with Aquaretto and Zooloretto Mini.
Hobbli's Notes
Zooloretto is a modern family-game classic: the 'less is sometimes more' tension of not overstuffing your zoo is a brilliant, simple hook. It plays smoothly with kids and adults alike and never overstays its welcome at 45 minutes. A shelf staple for good reason.
What we like
- Award-winning design (Spiel des Jahres 2007) with broad family appeal.
- Simple drafting mechanism is easy to teach in minutes.
- Meaningful tension between growing your zoo and overcrowding it.
- Expands well with Aquaretto and Zooloretto Mini.
Keep in mind
- Relatively low strategic depth for experienced gamers.
- Luck of the draft can swing outcomes.
- Can feel repetitive over many consecutive plays.
Who it's for
Great for families with kids (8+) in groups of 2-5 wanting a light, award-winning set-collection game.
