About the game
Coloretto is a light card game about drafting colored cards into your collection while avoiding overloading on too many colors. On a turn, players either add a card to one of several open rows or take an entire row into their collection, but rows can hold at most three cards, forcing tough decisions about timing. At the end of a round, each player counts only their best three colors positively, with every additional color counting against them, using an escalating point scale. Jokers and bonus cards add useful flexibility to an otherwise simple push-your-luck structure. It's a quick, elegant gateway game from designer Michael Schacht that plays in about half an hour.
Hobbli's Notes
Coloretto is a masterclass in simple design, teaching in minutes while still offering real tension over when to cut your losses and grab a row. It scales gracefully from 2 to 5 players and rarely overstays its welcome. Experienced gamers may find it too light for a main event, but it's a reliable filler or family opener. A modern classic that helped spawn the equally beloved Zooloretto.
