About the game
Metropolys is an elegant bidding and area-control game in which players act as rival urban planners racing to construct the most prestigious buildings across a city. On each turn, a player places a numbered building marker on the board, and other players can pass or raise the stakes by placing a higher-numbered building in an adjacent space. Winning the bid means claiming that spot, while spaces reward or penalize players based on nearby metro stations, archaeological sites, and fashionable districts. Hidden agenda cards give each player secret extra goals, such as surrounding fountains or occupying both ends of a bridge. The game ends once a player has placed all their buildings, and the most prestigious planner wins.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys how Metropolys turns a simple bidding mechanism into a spatial puzzle full of clever secondary scoring opportunities. The hidden agenda cards add a nice layer of secret strategy that keeps opponents guessing. Its moderate complexity and hour-long playtime make it accessible without feeling shallow. It's a bit of an overlooked gem for fans of tight, tactical bidding games.
