About the game

Drakon (Third Edition) traps a band of adventurers in the maze-like vaults of a dragon named Drakon, who offers freedom to whoever collects ten gold from her hoard first. On your turn you either place a dungeon tile to expand the maze or move your hero to an adjacent tile, using special tile actions to grab gold, steal from rivals, or destroy tiles outright. This third edition adds plastic miniatures, larger tiles, and new artwork combining rooms from the original game and its expansion. Games run 20 to 60 minutes as the maze grows more treacherous.

Hobbli's Notes

Drakon is a fun, tile-laying maze-builder with just enough take-that spice from tile destruction and gold-stealing to keep everyone on their toes. The third edition's upgraded components and miniatures give it a much more polished feel than earlier printings. It's an easy, family-friendly adventure game that works well for groups who enjoy light interaction and maze-building.

What we like

  • Modular tile-laying keeps every maze different.
  • Take-that actions like tile destruction add fun interaction.
  • Upgraded third-edition components and miniatures look great.
  • Simple turn structure is easy to teach.

Keep in mind

  • Take-that mechanics can frustrate players who dislike direct interference.
  • Runtime can stretch toward the higher end with 6 players.
  • Rules for tile actions require a short reference at first.
