About the game
Quoridor is a minimalist abstract strategy game in which players race their pawn to the opposite edge of the board. On each turn, you either move your pawn one space or place a wall to block an opponent's path: but you can never fully seal anyone in. Despite the simple setup, the game rewards deep spatial and tactical thinking as players juggle offense and defense. Quick rounds and a small footprint make it an easy game to bring almost anywhere. It's an elegant classic for two to four players.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli loves Quoridor as a gateway to abstract strategy: the rules take two minutes to explain but the decisions get surprisingly tricky. It plays fast enough to fit in almost any occasion, from a quick lunch break to a travel game. The four-player variant changes the dynamic nicely, though two players is still the classic experience. It's not flashy, but it holds up remarkably well over repeated plays.
What we like
- Rules are simple enough to teach in minutes.
- Offers surprising strategic depth for such a compact game.
- Short 15-minute playtime fits almost any occasion.
- Compact components make it ideal for travel.
Keep in mind
- Limited theme may not appeal to players wanting narrative games.
- Four-player games can feel chaotic compared to the tighter two-player duel.
Who it's for
Great for all ages 8 and up, from families to abstract-strategy fans, in games of 2-4 players.
