About the game

Blue Moon City has players helping rebuild the shattered city of Blue Moon after the events of the two-player card game Blue Moon. Using cards representing the game's various fantasy races, players contribute resources to complete one of 21 building tiles scattered across a modular board. Completing a building earns crystals and dragon favors, which can eventually be traded for crystals needed to power the central Obelisk. The first player to place the required number of crystal markers on the Obelisk wins.

Hobbli's Notes

Blue Moon City is a great showcase of Reiner Knizia's knack for elegant hand-management and set-collection design, wrapped in a colorful fantasy world. The modular board keeps games from feeling too samey.

What we like

  • Elegant interplay between hand management and set collection.
  • Modular board keeps each game feeling fresh.
  • Strong fantasy race theming with excellent artwork.
  • Rewards careful planning around crystal and dragon favor trades.

Keep in mind

  • Some races or cards may feel stronger than others depending on the edition.
