About the game

Mykerinos sends players into 1899 Egypt as archaeologists seeking relics for powerful benefactors. Over four rounds, players use a personal pool of archaeologists to start or expand excavations on a modular board of area cards, or to play benefactor abilities that grant special bonuses. When all players pass, area control determines who gets first pick of available cards, with the option to head to the museum for multiplied scoring. Final prestige comes from collected cards, benefactor colors, and full sets.

Hobbli's Notes

Mykerinos offers a satisfying area-control puzzle wrapped in an appealing archaeological theme. The benefactor powers add welcome asymmetry and tactical options beyond simple excavation. Timing your museum visits against opponents' plans is where much of the game's tension lives. It's a solid, somewhat overlooked medium-weight euro for area-majority fans.

What we like

  • Area-control excavation mechanic creates constant tactical tension.
  • Benefactor powers add asymmetric strategic options.
  • Museum multiplier system rewards clever timing.
  • Archaeological theme is well integrated into the mechanics.

Keep in mind

  • Rules overhead can be significant for a first playthrough.
  • Some player elimination-style disadvantage if outmaneuvered in area control.
  • Relatively niche title with less community support than bigger releases.

Who it's for
