About the game

Kinfire Council puts players on the ruling council of the city of Din'Lux, sending workers out to gather resources, raise buildings, and construct Kinfire lighthouses that hold back the encroaching Starless Nights. Alongside worker placement, councilors vote on city policy, arrest suspected cultists, and dispatch a Seeker to counter the hidden Cult of Altan working to undermine them from within. A hidden semi-cooperative threat means the table must balance personal ambition against the shared need to keep the Cult from winning outright. With voting, variable powers, and a prisoner's-dilemma twist, it blends competitive city-building with social deduction tension.

Hobbli's Notes

We're intrigued by the way Kinfire Council layers a hidden Cult threat over a familiar worker-placement city-builder, forcing players to negotiate cooperation even while competing for points. Kevin Wilson has a strong pedigree with thematic, mechanism-rich designs, and this looks like it continues that streak. The voting and prisoner's-dilemma elements add a negotiation layer that could make or break tables depending on group dynamics. As a freshly released title, some balance and pacing questions are still to be answered by the wider community.

What we like

  • Combines worker placement with a hidden semi-cooperative threat for extra tension.
  • Voting and prisoner's-dilemma mechanics add real social negotiation.
  • Variable player powers give each council member a distinct playstyle.
  • Strong thematic wrapper around city-building and cult intrigue.

Keep in mind

  • Higher complexity and longer playtime may not suit casual groups.
  • Hidden-threat mechanics can create swingy or unpredictable endings.
  • As a new release, long-term balance is still untested by the community.

Who it's for

Best for experienced gamers age 14+ who enjoy worker placement mixed with hidden-role politics, in groups of 3-6.
