About the game
In Sea Dragons, players lead a family of sea dragons competing to become the legendary protectors of four forbidden sea kingdoms. Using pattern cards to place dragons on a modular board, you'll sink pirate ships, collect hidden treasures, and complete missions while carefully avoiding placing your dragons too close to your own kind. Area majority across the four kingdoms combines with set collection and end-game bonuses for a colorful, tactical scoring race. Designed by Yaniv Kahana, Simone Luciani, and Pini Shekhter, it's a mid-weight strategy game for 2-5 players.
Hobbli's Notes
Sea Dragons pairs a whimsical pirates-and-dragons theme with genuinely clever spatial puzzle-solving: the restriction on placing dragons next to your own creates constant tactical tension. With a strong design pedigree behind it, this is a great pick for groups who enjoy area-majority games with a lighter, more fantastical skin.
What we like
- Clever placement restrictions create constant tactical tension.
- Colorful pirates-and-dragons theme appeals to a wide range of players.
- Missions and treasure collection add multiple paths to victory.
- Modular board and variable set-up boost replayability.
Keep in mind
- Area-majority scoring can feel swingy in the final rounds.
- Newer release means less community-tested strategy depth.
- May be too whimsical in theme for hardcore strategy purists.
Who it's for
Good for strategy gamers ages 10+ who enjoy area-majority and pattern-placement games; plays well in groups of 2-5.
