About the game
House of Fado casts players as managers of a traditional Portuguese fado restaurant, contracting fadista singers and musicians while attracting customers who linger for an entire evening of music and dining. Using worker placement and market speculation, players draft performers, manage staff movement with a bump-action system borrowed from The Gallerist, and build prestige for their fado house. Designed for one to four players, it supports a solid solo mode alongside multiplayer competition. The bittersweet theme of "saudade", longing and nostalgia, infuses the whole experience with a distinctive cultural flavor rarely seen on the tabletop. It's a substantial 60-to-120-minute eurogame from the team behind Vital Lacerda's celebrated heavy strategy titles.
Hobbli's Notes
Coming from Vital Lacerda's team, House of Fado brings the same dense, interlocking systems fans expect, wrapped in a genuinely fresh and evocative theme. The music-and-restaurant setting is a lovely change of pace from typical euro themes, and the bump-action mechanic gives spatial planning real bite. As a brand-new release, we're still forming a full read on how it holds up over repeated plays, but the pedigree and originality here are promising.
