About the game

Cthulhu: Death May Die - Fear of the Unknown is a standalone cooperative horror game where 1 to 5 investigators battle Lovecraftian monstrosities before losing their minds entirely. Six new Episode boxes and two Elder Boxes bring fresh insanities, monsters, and modular rules to the acclaimed Death May Die system. Players use action points, dice, and unique character powers to hold the line against cosmic horrors, with solo play fully supported. It's a fresh season of chaotic, miniature-driven mythos combat from designers Rob Daviau and Marco Portugal.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team enjoys how the Cthulhu: Death May Die series leans fully into over-the-top cosmic horror spectacle, backed up by genuinely striking miniatures. The variable player powers and campaign scenarios keep sessions feeling different each time. Dice-driven combat can occasionally overshadow careful tactics, which will bother players who prefer tighter systems. For groups wanting a chaotic, thematic co-op horror night, though, it delivers reliably.

What we like

  • Thrilling cooperative Lovecraftian horror theme throughout.
  • High-quality miniatures create real tabletop spectacle.
  • Standalone box refreshes the core system with new episodes and monsters.
  • Scalable difficulty and strong solo play support.

Keep in mind

  • Chaotic dice-driven combat can undercut careful tactical planning.
  • Full campaign content requires investing in multiple episode boxes.
  • Higher complexity and table footprint may overwhelm horror-genre newcomers.

Who it's for

Great for teens and adults (12+) who enjoy cooperative horror games with miniatures, playing solo or in groups up to five.
