About the game

Imperium: Horizons puts you at the helm of one of fourteen radically asymmetric civilizations, from the Abbasid to the Wagadou, each with its own unique deckbuilding mechanics and playstyle. Facing constant threats, you must conquer new lands, advance scientifically and culturally, and manage growth carefully to avoid unrest while building toward empire. A new trade module adds economic intrigue and dynamic politics on top of the acclaimed Imperium system. Fully compatible with Imperium: Classics and Imperium: Legends, it also stands entirely on its own for solo or multiplayer play.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team is impressed by how distinctly each civilization plays in the Imperium series, turning deckbuilding into a genuine asymmetric strategy puzzle rather than a shared card pool. The added trade module gives Horizons its own identity even for players who already own other entries in the line. Its complexity and long playtime mean it's best suited to committed strategy gamers rather than casual tables. The strong solo mode is a particular highlight for players wanting a deep single-player civilization experience.

What we like

  • Deeply asymmetric civilizations each with unique deckbuilding mechanics.
  • Excellent standalone solo mode for single-player civilization building.
  • Compatible with other Imperium titles for even more variety.
  • Rich historical theme spanning fourteen distinct cultures.

Keep in mind

  • High complexity and long playtime demand serious commitment.
  • The move-through-deck system has a real learning curve.
  • Relatively thin direct player interaction in multiplayer games.

Who it's for

Best for dedicated strategy gamers (12+) who enjoy asymmetric civilization deckbuilders, playing solo or in groups up to four.
