About the game

Tokaido Duo distills the relaxing journey theme of Tokaido into a standalone two-player game with new dice-drafting mechanisms. Each turn, players draft dice to guide three unique characters, a pilgrim, a merchant, and an artist, along their own tracks around the island of Shikoku. The pilgrim visits shrines and hot springs, the merchant trades souvenirs, and the artist paints beautiful vistas to gift to locals. Players race to complete jobs and earn points while savoring the journey along the way.

Hobbli's Notes

A relaxing, beautifully illustrated distillation of Tokaido's journey theme into a tight two-player format. The dice-drafting is clever and cozy, though it naturally trades away some of the original's variety by dropping to just two players.

What we like

  • Relaxing, low-conflict gameplay perfect for a calm date night.
  • Beautiful art and theme carried over from the original Tokaido.
  • Quick sessions of around 30 minutes.
  • Includes a solo Automa mode for playing alone.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly limited to two players.
  • Offers less variety than the original multiplayer Tokaido.
  • Light strategic depth may feel too casual for serious strategy gamers.

Who it's for

Couples and casual two-player gamers, ages 8 and up, designed specifically for exactly 2 players.
