About the game
Sleeping Gods: Primeval Peril is a standalone campaign set in Ryan Laukat's beloved Sleeping Gods universe, following Captain Sofi Odessa and her crew as they navigate a dangerous river winding through lush, mysterious jungle. Playable solo or cooperatively by two players, the game has you exploring islands, battling creatures, meeting the world's inhabitants, and seeking out the totems of sleeping gods in hopes of finding a way home. New characters and stories ensure nothing from the Sleeping Gods base game is spoiled, and a variant supports play with three to four using the same core rules. This retail edition expands on its original print-and-play roots with streamlined gameplay, new quests, and an atlas featuring new maps.
Hobbli's Notes
This is a gorgeous, story-rich cooperative adventure that captures everything fans loved about the original Sleeping Gods in a tighter, standalone package. The narrative exploration and hand-management systems reward curiosity and careful planning in equal measure, and the strong solo mode makes it a great fit even without a regular gaming group. It does ask for a real time investment given its long campaign length, but for adventure and storytelling fans it's a rewarding journey.
What we like
- Rich narrative storytelling set in the beloved Sleeping Gods universe.
- Gorgeous art and immersive island exploration.
- Works equally well solo or as a two-player cooperative experience.
- Standalone campaign is accessible even to newcomers to the series.
Keep in mind
- Long campaign playtime requires a real time commitment.
- Limited to one or two players without the group variant.
- Heavy narrative focus may not suit players wanting pure mechanical strategy.
Who it's for
Ideal for cooperative adventure fans aged 10 to 13 and up, playable solo or with up to two players out of the box, who enjoy narrative-driven exploration games.
