About the game

Santa's Workshop puts you in charge of a team of elves racing to build toys, tend reindeer, and impress Santa before the big night. Over nine rounds you gather fabric, wood, and metal to construct gifts, train your elves for special bonuses, and decide when to visit the mail room versus the stables. Santa drops by three times to inspect everyone's progress, so timing your gift production matters. A reimplementation of the 2017 original, this second edition adds a family mode and a meatier advanced mode for older players. It's a cozy, colorful worker-placement game built for the holiday season.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a genuinely satisfying worker-placement puzzle dressed up in cheerful holiday clothes, and the reindeer-tending subsystem is a clever way to keep every turn tense. We like that the two difficulty modes let it grow with a family over several Decembers. It won't wow committed euro gamers looking for something new, but as a seasonal tradition-starter it hits the mark.

What we like

  • The worker-placement and set-collection engine offers real strategic decisions each round.
  • Two difficulty modes make it playable with younger family members or more experienced gamers.
  • The reindeer-tending mechanism adds a clever secondary tension beyond simple resource gathering.
  • The Christmas theme and colorful art make it an easy sell for a holiday game night.

Keep in mind

  • The nine-round structure and multiple subsystems can run long for a family game.
  • The holiday theme narrows its table appeal outside the Christmas season.
  • Downtime can creep up in the higher player counts.

Who it's for

Families with kids around 8 and up, and casual worker-placement fans who want a strategic game with holiday flavor for game nights of 2-5 players.
