About the game

Unfathomable is set aboard the steamship SS Atlantica in 1913, where hidden Deep One hybrids work to sink the ship from within while the rest of the passengers try to survive the crossing. Humans must manage the ship's shared resources and fend off crises drawn each turn, while traitors subtly try to deplete those same resources. Skill tests require players to secretly contribute cards to a shared pile, making every group decision a chance for hidden sabotage. The game blends movement, hand management, and hidden roles into a tense nautical horror experience.

Hobbli's Notes

Unfathomable delivers strong hidden-traitor tension wrapped in a thick Lovecraftian nautical theme, with genuinely nerve-wracking shared skill tests. It rewards a full table willing to dig into the social deduction and crisis management. The tradeoff is a long playtime and real setup investment, so it works best as a dedicated game night centerpiece rather than a casual pick.

What we like

  • Strong hidden-traitor tension built into shared skill tests.
  • Rich Lovecraftian nautical horror theme and atmosphere.
  • Variable roles and crises add solid replayability.
  • Team-based skill tests reward careful group coordination.

Keep in mind

  • Very long playtime demands a significant time commitment.
  • High complexity and setup can be a barrier for newcomers.
  • Needs a full, engaged table to really shine.
