About the game

Equinox gathers mysterious forest creatures competing to be immortalized in a legendary storybook, with only a handful of spots available. Each round, players place numbered power cards on creatures, with the weakest being eliminated, while also placing bets on which creatures will make the final cut. Special creature powers let you tilt outcomes in your favor. A revised edition of Reiner Knizia's classic Colossal Arena, it offers thousands of possible creature combinations across replays.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team considers Equinox a great example of Knizia's knack for tight betting tension in a light package. The push and pull between managing your bets and using creature powers creates real decision pressure every round. A dependable choice for groups who enjoy clever, medium-light betting games.

What we like

  • Clever betting mechanism keeps constant tension throughout each round.
  • Creature special powers add meaningful tactical decisions.
  • Quick to teach and play despite its strategic depth.
  • Scales well across two to five players.

Keep in mind

  • Elimination of creatures can feel swingy from round to round.
  • Outcomes are influenced by luck of the card draws.
  • Late-round decisions can occasionally border on kingmaking.

Who it's for

Great for families and gamers age 10+ who enjoy betting and bluffing, in groups of two to five.
