About the game

Massive Darkness 2: Hellscape sends a band of Lightbringers through newly opened Portals to destroy the Darkness once and for all, ten years after the events of the original game. This cooperative dungeon-crawler for 1-6 players combines miniatures combat, variable hero powers, and modular scenario boards across a full campaign. Players roll dice for combat, manage action points, and adapt to shifting mission objectives as the horde grows stronger. It works equally well as a full team effort or a solo campaign. Rich miniatures and escalating threats make it a strong pick for fans of dungeon-crawling adventure.

Hobbli's Notes

Massive Darkness 2 leans hard into miniature-heavy dungeon crawling, and it delivers exactly what that audience wants: tactical combat, loot, and a real sense of your heroes growing more powerful across the campaign. It asks for a fair table and shelf commitment given the component count, but the scenario variety keeps sessions from feeling repetitive. A strong choice for groups already invested in the CMON dungeon-crawler ecosystem.

What we like

  • Rich miniatures and modular boards create an immersive dungeon-crawl.
  • Variable hero powers give each campaign playthrough a different feel.
  • Solo mode makes it accessible even without a full group.
  • Escalating scenario design keeps the campaign feeling fresh.

Keep in mind

  • High component count and setup time demand real table space.
  • 60-minute sessions can still feel long due to combat resolution.
  • Best experienced as part of a longer campaign, which is a big commitment.

Who it's for

Best for ages 14 and up who enjoy cooperative miniatures dungeon-crawling; works well in groups of 2-4, solo, or up to 6 players.
