About the game
Paleo is a cooperative Stone Age adventure where players send prehistoric hunter-gatherers out to explore locations, gather resources, and complete missions, all building toward the ultimate goal of painting a mammoth on the cave wall. Card-based locations reveal their contents only when visited, creating tense choices between safety and reward. With multiple scenario modules and huge variability, Paleo offers a relaxed but suspenseful cooperative experience for the whole table.
Hobbli's Notes
We love how Paleo makes cooperative deckbuilding feel warm and communal rather than fiddly - players quietly place cards face down and reveal simultaneously, keeping the pace brisk. The variety of scenarios and modules means the box has real staying power well past a first playthrough.
What we like
- Simultaneous reveal keeps turns quick and everyone engaged.
- Huge variety of scenarios and modules extend replayability.
- Approachable rules make it a great co-op starter game.
- Charming stone-age theme with a satisfying long-term goal.
Keep in mind
- Some randomness in card draws can feel unfair in a tough scenario.
- Fixed card reveals mean less replay surprise once memorized.
- Cooperative games can suffer from a dominant player taking over.
Who it's for
Great for ages 10+, casual and family gamers who enjoy cooperative storytelling, in groups of 2-4.
