About the game
Dale of Merchants 3 is a standalone entry in the beloved Dale of Merchants deck-building series, set in the animalfolk world of Daimyria. It introduces six new themed decks, each built around a different animal clan with its own gameplay focus: from Echidnas who borrow cards from rivals to Tree-kangaroos who excel at protecting their goods. Players build up decks of merchant goods, competing to construct the most valuable trade routes. It plays great on its own or combined with other games in the series for even more variety.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors are fond of the Dale of Merchants series for its charming animal art and asymmetric deck designs: each animalfolk clan genuinely feels different to play. This third entry keeps the winning formula fresh with new mechanics per deck rather than just reskinning old ones. It's an approachable deck-builder that doesn't overstay its welcome at around 40 minutes. A great pick for groups who enjoy Dominion-style deck-building but want more thematic personality.
What we like
- Six new asymmetric animalfolk decks each play very differently.
- Works as a standalone game or combined with other Dale of Merchants titles.
- Brisk 40-minute playtime keeps sessions moving.
- Charming animal theme appeals to a wide range of ages.
- Solid entry point into deck-building for newer gamers.
Keep in mind
- Some decks' asymmetric abilities may unbalance games between skill levels.
- Card-stealing and borrowing mechanics can frustrate players who dislike direct interference.
- Smaller scale may feel less epic than bigger deck-building titles.
- Best experienced by players who enjoy series continuity, though not required.
Who it's for
Great for deck-building fans and families who enjoy light strategy with strong theme, ages 10 and up, in groups of 2-4.
