About the game
Aftermath is an Adventure Book Game where players lead a misfit band of critters scavenging a world abandoned by humans. Each character has a distinct personality and playstyle, and together they venture out on story-driven missions to gather food and supplies for their colony while dodging bandits and predators. Choices made on missions shape the ongoing narrative and determine what resources and dangers await back home. Between adventures, players build up and defend their colony using the spoils of their journeys.
Hobbli's Notes
An emotionally engaging, richly written campaign game with a wonderfully quirky cast of critter heroes. The scavenging-and-storytelling loop is genuinely compelling, though the sprawling book-based campaign is a big shelf and time commitment to see through.
What we like
- Richly detailed narrative campaign with memorable critter characters.
- Card-based combat resolution keeps downtime relatively low.
- Fully supported solo mode alongside cooperative play.
- Huge amount of scenario content with 20-plus missions.
Keep in mind
- Sessions can run long at up to two hours each.
- The full campaign requires significant storage and organization.
- Player elimination is a real risk during combat encounters.
Who it's for
Fans of narrative-driven adventure and campaign games, ages 14 and up, playable solo or with up to 4 players.
