About the game

Hadara takes players through three epochs of civilization-building, from a fledgling settlement to a flourishing high culture. Each round, players draft cards representing people, achievements, and resources, weighing agriculture, military strength, and culture against one another. Because everyone chooses simultaneously and remembers what's been picked before passing the hand along, the game rewards both memory and forward planning. With only an hour of playtime, Hadara distills the epic feel of a civilization game into a brisk, family-friendly package. It's a great pick for groups who want that 'building an empire' feeling without a marathon session.

Hobbli's Notes

Hadara is a lovely little civ-builder that punches above its weight for the table time it asks of you. The simultaneous drafting keeps everyone engaged instead of waiting around, and the epoch structure gives a satisfying sense of progression. It won't replace a meaty 4X game for hardened strategy fans, but as a 60-minute civilization experience it's hard to beat. We especially like it as a gateway toward heavier civ games.

What we like

  • Delivers a civilization-building arc in about an hour.
  • Simultaneous card selection keeps downtime low.
  • Accessible rules make it easy to teach newcomers.
  • Attractive art and satisfying epoch progression.

Keep in mind

  • Card draw luck can limit available strategies.
  • Player interaction is mostly indirect.
  • Can feel repetitive across many plays.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual-to-mid-weight gamers, ages 10 and up, in groups of 2 to 5, especially those curious about civilization-building games.
