About the game

Age of Civilization compresses the sweep of empire-building into a tight 60-minute experience where each player leads up to three historical civilizations across six rounds. You'll assign workers to research technology, build wonders, trade, and expand your culture or military, deciding when the moment is right to abandon a civilization for a fresh one with new abilities. This 'legacy annexation' twist keeps the strategic puzzle evolving throughout the game. It's a satisfying entry point for players curious about the civ-building genre without the usual multi-hour commitment. Solo players can also test their empire-building skills against the game's built-in system.

Hobbli's Notes

We're impressed by how much civilization-building depth Age of Civilization squeezes into an hour. The mechanic of switching civilizations to reset your workforce is a clever twist that keeps decisions fresh late into the game. It doesn't reach the scale of the genre's giants, but that's precisely its appeal for groups wanting the civ experience on a weeknight. The solo mode is a nice bonus for a game this compact.

What we like

  • Delivers genuine civilization-building depth in about an hour.
  • Switching civilizations mid-game keeps strategic options fresh.
  • Solid solo mode included for solitaire play.
  • Worker placement and tech trees give multiple viable strategies.

Keep in mind

  • May feel shallow compared to full-scale civilization games.
  • Some may find switching civilizations fiddly to track.

Who it's for

Great for strategy gamers aged 10+ looking for a compact civilization-building experience, playable solo or with up to 4 players in a single sitting.
