About the game

Paint the Roses is a cooperative logic and deduction game set in the puzzling world of Alice in Wonderland, where players act as Royal Gardeners trying to satisfy the ever-changing whims of the Queen of Hearts. Each round, the team must guess at least one secret whim card by placing shrub tiles that reveal matching clues, all without directly stating what's on their own card. The Queen's approach speed automatically adjusts to the team's score, making the game harder or easier as needed. It's a clever communication-limited deduction puzzle that scales its challenge to the players.

Hobbli's Notes

One of the more elegant cooperative deduction games we've seen, with a self-adjusting difficulty curve that keeps it fair for groups of mixed skill. The Alice in Wonderland theming is a delightful touch.

What we like

  • Adaptive difficulty keeps the challenge fair for any group.
  • Strong deduction puzzle with satisfying logical payoffs.
  • Charming, well-realized Alice in Wonderland theme.
  • Encourages teamwork within clever communication limits.

Keep in mind

  • Communication restrictions may frustrate chattier players.
  • Turns can slow down as players deliberate over clues.
  • Replay value depends somewhat on card combination variety.

Who it's for

Great for cooperative puzzle fans aged 10+, playing in families or groups of 2-5.
