About the game
Karak sends six brave adventurers into the labyrinth beneath a crumbling castle, uncovering the dungeon tile by tile as they equip weapons and spells, fight monsters, and collect treasure. Each character brings a different trick, and the layout differs on every playthrough thanks to modular tile exploration. The player with the most treasure when the game ends wins. It's a family-friendly dungeon crawl of dice-rolling combat and exploration, also known as Catacombs of Karak.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors see this as a light, approachable dungeon crawler well-suited to introducing kids to the genre, though our familiarity with its finer balance points is limited.
What we like
- Modular labyrinth keeps every game layout different.
- Simple dice-based combat is easy for kids to grasp.
- Quick 45-minute playtime.
- Six distinct characters offer variable powers.
Keep in mind
- Limited strategic depth for older or more experienced gamers.
- Dice-based combat luck can decide encounters outright.
- Tile-by-tile exploration can slow the pace at times.
